2010 Racing Season

Hi everyone, its been a long and tireless winter trying to figure out what to do for this 2010 season.  Time has flown by and the season is about to commence.  Our first event will be on March 20 and we are looking forward to it.  We will be racing under the Ewing Brothers racing team.  The combination of drivers and cars on this team will be a great combination for this season and will be a very strong force at the track.  I am very ancious to get there and see how everything goes!! I will be posting a new entry about each race to keep you informed of everything that is going on.  Thanks for all your support and we look forward to this 2010 season.

Open-Comp, End of Season, and Looking Forward

Hey everyone, sorry for the long break, but the season is over and i am a little sad but I am looking forward to a new, up and coming season 🙂  The last race was the open-comp and I did very well for my first 200 lap race.  It was very interesting to say the least.  There was a great turnout for the race, I don’t know the exact numbers but I think there were 34 in the Super Late Model class.  They only were allowing 26 to start the main event for the $7,777 cash purse.  The competition was very stiff and people from all over the country, even Canada, showed up to claim the prize.  This was a new setup for us because instead of running the treaded tire, like all season, the class ran slicks.  This was a great experience for me and we adapted very quickly and well.

I qualified 18th which I was ok with but when I looked at the times and realized that I was less than 2 tenths off of first 18th wasn’t so bad 🙂 Friday night the heat races rolled by and as mine approached I was more and more excited.  I finished my heat race without incident in 2nd place locking myself into the main event for Saturday.  Friday night draws to a close as we nut and bolt the car for the big show on Saturday.  Saturday finally comes and the entire day it is one big anticipation for the big event!  I find out that I am starting in 18th position for the 200 lap event.  The race is finally here 🙂  We roll onto the track, do the parade and line up stuff for the crowd and the green flag drops.  My dad comes over the headset and tells me to come in!! My rear end is leaking fluid all over and they don’t want me to get black flagged.  I come racing into the pits and we decide to just not run the rear-end cooler to slow down the leak and on lap 100 we will get a closer look and see if we can fix it. (on lap 100 we get a ten minute pit-stop to change tires and fill gas)  I race back on the track but I am already three laps down 😦 The race goes on and I dodge some major pileups and in the end we end up scrapping together a 10th place finish 🙂  I am way excited and couldn’t be happier, considering the circumstances, about our finish.

The season draws to a close and I ended up finishing 11th overall in points.  This isn’t so bad considering I only could participate in half of the races due to budget constraints and some mid season motor failures.  The best part of the entire season, besides the fact that we learned a ton and enjoyed every minute of it, was that I received rookie of the year!!

It is winter time now and we are already chomping at the bit about next season.  The car is being tore to the ground to be properly rebuilt for next season.  Right now I am looking hard for sponsors for next season and looking at all of our options for what series and cars to run for next year.

Most importantly I would like to thank my sponsors from this year because without them none of this would have happened!!

Stay tuned as next year approaches with new and exciting adventures.

Getting Ready!!

Just wanted to stop by and say hi to all my readers and fans and let them know what is going on.  We are getting ready for the big open comp in Vegas!! I cannot wait for this race becasue it is going to be a 200 lap race.  This is a very good thing for us because our car throughout the season has always come on strong and the end of the races and typically the other drivers tend to fall off.  Not only is it going to be a fun race but we are also going to be running on full Hoosier slicks.  This will be another first for me and the team and I are looking forward to the challenge.  Hope you can make it to the race! 🙂

Championship night!

Well all went pretty well considering.  We qualified 3rd, our best qualifying yet this season, and finished fourth.  I had a solid third during the race but despritly did not want to settle for third, I wanted to win.  This was a key factor in me placing fouth as opposed to third.  We were running on very old tires, due both to budget constraints and a set of bad new tires, and I made the decision to push the car to its limit in order to catch the leaders.  I clearly had a better handling car than them but they clearly had more motor than me.  I did all I could to hang with them and try to make a move, but this hurt me in the end, as I figured it would.  I finished off my tires and this allowed fourth place to catch me and eventually pass me.  I considered this as not a loss though because we gave it our all and did the best with the equipment we had.  The next race is the open-comp and I am super excited and looking forward to this race and hopefully it will be a great success.

Ready for this Weekend!!

I don’t think we could be more ready for this weekend.  The car was ran on the DYNO on monday and we found about 20-30 more HP just by tuning the motor!! 🙂 The car is in the trailer and we are packed and ready to go.  Can’t wait to go racing, its been way to long!!

Another disappointment

Well last weekend was a double header and the car was completely ready to go except for one minor detail 😦 The motor didn’t get finished in time.  We stayed up all night on thursday night working and working on the motor but we just kept running into major problems.  The first problem that was a major setback was there was a crack in the oil pan; this was not unfixable so we decided to weld it up and make it work.  Then the big problem hit us.  The rockers were hitting the valve spring retainers and we needed longer push rods in order to fix the problem.  So needless to say at midnight this kind of part is very hard to come by, so we called it and decided we wouldn’t be able to make it 😦

On the bright side we now have the motor in the car and the car is completely ready to go for the next race and were even going to be able to run the car on the Dyno and see where the power curve is.  This is a major advantage to us! It will allow us to fine tune the motor and put it where it needs to run 🙂 Looking forward to next race and were going to bring home a first place 🙂

First week of September

Last race weekend was supposed to be a great weekend.  We had it in our heads to better our previous finish of second place and take home a first place.  This didn’t turn out as planned, on the first practice session my motor blew up!! Not a good thing.  This very quickly ended our weekend and we raced home that Friday night (from Vegas) to asses the damages.  As it turns out the previous motor builder, unknown to us, used cheap parts for valve keepers and one of them failed.  This failure resulted in us having a motor as a “big paper weight” now 😦

There is a big double header coming up this weekend though and we are in the process of trying to put a new motor together.  Hopefully we can overcome this big obsticle and make it to the race this weekend and get our first place 🙂
